Unveiling an Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have discovered numerous interesting creations from small studios. But, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is literally a turd trying to make its way to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

How you interact is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. Throughout 150 stages, battle boss fights and unlock a store to acquire skins for your fecal avatar.

Plan your actions with caution, as a mistake requires restarting the level. Bounce on bubbles to propel your character higher, traverse disappearing ledges, and activate triggers to open hidden paths. Earn coins for buying tougher stages as things intensifies.

In terms of design, the experience features neon environments and an amazing music score. The simple graphics featuring moving abstract forms may remind players of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's hard to recall similar titles where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment often featured scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references shows up heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned impressive awards, including winning at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is available now on Steam, with the full game set to launch on PC on November 19.
